a really good thing to have if you either talk to someone a lot, or you surf the web. if you do not think you do either of those things as much as you think you do, then do not buy it. because it is expensive. also it has no light, if you don't think thats a big factor, than congrats this is the keypad for you...you do know that you can also connect your regular computer usb keyboard with the ps3?..right? i knew that but i still got it...because it makes little conversations really fun, without the trouble to plug things

I bought this a few days ago because I was sick of punching in each individual letter, which took forever. This keypad easily fits on the controller and doesn't seem to add to much extra weight. It also seems to be made very well. It doesn't feel cheap or junky. I have typed several messages with this pad and it is quick and responsive. The positioning is not bad and it can be easily accessed. It has an on off switch on the side of it, which is very nice. The power status can be checked on screen, which is a bonus. There are also quick use bottoms on the pad that takes you quickly to your friends list, where you can begin typing. There are buttons on the top left and right, which need to be pressed in conjuction with another button to give you certain symbols or turning caps on or off. You can also easily scroll through items with the directional keys.
One thing that doesn't seem to work well, is the pointer or mouse type function. It's supposed to use the heat from your finger to move in what Ever direction, but it doesn't seem to work well at all. Other than that I recommend this for quick typing and it does make the controller look good also.

Very good keypad it works very well with my ps3 system and was very easy to pair up also. Makes life much easier typing quicker and a great wireless device to add to ur collection. Its worth spending a Lil money on for texting ur friends are going to any website .

Well its almost perfect if you plan to chat a lot and if u are the one that like to use your play station for internet jobs and so on....
You have to get used to the touch pad mode...sometimes jump the pointer to nowhere but its not that bad just a little of practice...
one thing i wanted on this its some kind of glint on the keys you know when you are playing in total dark or something like that
...only that

I bought this for messaging over PSN with my friends.
Pros: Nicely made. Doesn't drain DS3 battery. Comes off easily. The touchpad feature is nice, but I never use it because I don't websurf on the PS3.
Cons: I really wish it had been more like the Xbox 360 messenger keypad. It should be on the bottom between the grips. For $50, having a backlight would have been much better. When I game, I usually have a light on only around the TV, not behind me, so it's hard to read the keys. It's especially hard to see the alternate characters. The buttons are too small and I make frequent errors (maybe I'll get better with practice). I have fairly skinny fingers too. I would have preferred a lower price with a backlight and no touchpad feature. Honestly the analog stick is probably easier for web pointing and clicking.
Some things are unnecessarily complicated, like Caps Lock. You have press a colored button and then caps lock. Why not just hold down the Shift button for two seconds?
In comparison, I got the Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Messenger Gold Pack with a keypad, PGR4, 12 month XBL card, and wired headset for almost the same price as this.
